She was the first Black woman to win Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival, be nominated for a Best Director Golden Globe, direct a film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and direct a film with a budget over $100 million. Her latest film project, ?When They See Us,? was nominated for 16 Emmy Awards, making her one of the first Black women to receive multiple nominations for directing. From ?I Will Follow? (2010) and ?Middle of Nowhere? (2012) to ?Selma? (2014) and ?A Wrinkle in Time? (2018), Ava continues to entertain and challenge audiences with her provocative filmmaking. Ava?s proceeds from sales of Lights, Caramel, Action!? go to ARRAY Alliance, a woman-led non-profit organization that?s advancing social justice through art.
